On Water Houseboat Expo 2010
August 27, 28, & 29

YourNewBoat was there at the 2nd annual “On the Water Houseboat Expo 2010” held the last weekend of August with fantastic sunny weather at Lake Cumberland State Dock located on the beautiful Lake Cumberland. A walk in the parking lot logged car tags from Texas, Georgia, New York, Vermont, Illinois, California, Nevada, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Quebec, Ontario, and so many more. The large crowd enjoyed touring the latest models from our leading houseboat manufacturers. Those represented were Sharpe, Horizon, Thoroughbred, and Stardust.
Seminars at this year’s show were, ”Hooked on a Houseboat,” presented by Dan Armitage, an avid fisherman and writer, who showed us the techniques to land that trophy bass right off the back of a houseboat. No trolling motors needed! Christy Martin, editor of Life on the Water magazine, shared “For Ladies Only,” a humorous approach on how women are the genuine captains of their ships! Back by popular demand was the “Captains Course” taught by Captain Don Hevener providing tips on navigating and docking your houseboat along with safety tips and procedures to help build your confidence in maneuvering your vessel.

Night entertainment was splendid. The cool August evenings brought out 2 big talents. Friday night kicked off with “Uncle Hamish and the Hooligans.” The sound of bagpipes mixing in with classic rock roared across the lake as the Celtic rock band played.

Saturday night came back to the beach Jimmy Buffet style, with the tropical rock group called Conch Republic Band and the crowd was worked up to a lumbar competition, Hawaiian style.

Of course, you can’t have a boat show without a corn hole competition and a poker run. Great prizes were given away to the lucky winners including: giant water mats, foldable dock carts, cooler scooters, wake tubes, and water lounges.
We would like to commend Houseboat Magazine with another hit and thank them for their hard work in putting this event together.
Below are some highlights of the boats that were on display.

This year was a first for YourNewBoat to set up camp at the campground. This is a great way to advertise our company with fellow RVers who maybe contemplating moving on the water in a houseboat. The accommodations at the Lake Cumberland State Park campground are fantastic. The shuttle will carry you to and from the boat show. We invite more RVers to the boat show next year.

The show was a success. We have met so many new people who have an interest in being house boaters for the first time and boaters who are looking to move up. Although, Your New Boat deals strictly with used boats, this show has always been an exciting time to look at our future. We may be representing these boats in the years to come and it will be a great pleasure to bring these boats to our buying clients. As always, it was a pleasure meeting those who came and we look forward to serving you in fulfilling your dreams in your new houseboat in the near future.
