Save our Summers!

This past July I was driving around one of our area lakes and I saw a sign that read "Back to School Bash at the Park, Saturday July 18th"

July 18th! I don't know when that particular district's school starts back, but if their back to school bash was July 18th, one can only assume that school was going to resume soon after the 18th. I don't know about you, but I was disgusted.

These earlier start dates affect our local economy and our tourism industry feels the pain (as well as our kids & parents). If you were out on the lake this July trying to enjoy the last of your summer vacation before the kids went back to school then you probably experienced some pretty crummy, rainy weather. August however, usually is gorgeous (if you're on the lake) otherwise it's just plain HOT! Our local marinas have a hard time serving those who are still enjoying the warmer water temperatures in August because half of their work force has gone back to school.
